Susan and I drove to Madrid on Sat., Jan. 20. There were very few tourists there. We spent much of our time talking with the local business owners about their holiday sales and even bought some fresh greens. One sad note- the "Hollar" where we would go for music and lunch was closed. We understand that it will reopen in the spring under new management as a deli.

The "Hollar"

On February 9-10, Susan and I celebrated my 81st birthday at NOSA Restaurant and Inn which is close to Ojo Caliente.

My step-daughter Susie and her son Anderson visited us during the week of March 12th. We all went to Abuiquiu (Poshuoinge Ruins, the Penitente Moranda, Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu Lake) and Taos (Kit Carson's House, the Gorge Bridge, the Plaza, the Earthships) while they were here. We saw some beautiful and interesting sights and enjoyed their company!

Anderson is applying to universities this year and here is a YouTube he created.

Susan and I went to Ormond Beach, Florida between April 9-15 to visit Susan's cousins Cliff and Annie Coleman. We stayed at their beautiful house and were taken on several excursions around the area. One was to the Museum of Arts and Sciences where Annie is a docent, took a drive down the Florida coast, and a had fun boat ride along the intercoastal waterway. Great weather and great time!

We were also entertained by their dog, Bonnie!

Susan's sister, Marcy and brother-in-law, Jim visited us for a few days at the end of April. We took them to the History Museum, the Vladem Contempory Art Museum and the Santa Fe Botanical Garden among other interesting places around Santa Fe. One day we went to our neighbor, Paul and Christine's house to put in two boxes of honey bees that Paul had purchased.

My step-grandson, Anderson Acord is graduating from DeBakey High School for Health Professionals in Houston on June 7. He plans to attend the University of Houston in the fall and eventually the Baylor College of Medicine where he plans to serve as a cross-national limb specialist in both the United States and China.

Susan and I took a trip to Colorado from July 10-15. We first drove to Salida where we enjoyed looking around the town and watching people kyack over the downtown waterfalls . The next day we drove up to Crested Butte. In Gothic, a small town to the north of Crested Butte Susan reunited with billy barr an old friend from the past. One day we took a jeep trip to the mountains to see the wildflowers. We happened to be there during the Wildflower Festival when there are abundance of flowering plants in the mountains above the town. Before coming home we drove over to Lake City and to Gunnison for a Saturday morning Farmers Market and Cattlemen's Days Parade.

On August 10th Susan and I went to Colorado Springs to meet with my ex-house mate/ Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity brother Gary Evers and his wife Anna for a couple of days. I had not seen them for many years and we had a great time reminiscing about the past and learning about their current and future adventures. It was a great reunion!

Susan and I drove down to Cerrillos and Madrid on August 20th. There were hardly any tourists there and at least three of the businesses were making repairs, etc. There was a new cafe where the Hollar used to be called Refinery 14. They were closed since they are open from 7:30-4:00 Thursday through Monday. However, the menu looked good so we will try it again in the future. It is a little too hot now anyway!

On August 31 we went to the Cerrillos Fiesta. Lots of activities, music and free hot dogs and watermelon. They even had donkey races in the afternoon. We went to Madrid for lunch at Refinery 14. Not bad, but no fried okra!

On October 12 we went on the annual Abiquiu Art Studio Tour. We went to many art studios, saw the genizaros dance in the Abiquiu Plaza and ate supper in Espanola at the La Cocina Restaurant. (The genizaros are decendents of detribalized Native Americans from the 17th to 19th century in the Spanish colony of New Mexico who were purchased from Indian tribes and were held captive as slaves. Later on many were given land in Abiquiu to protect the Spanish settlers in the Santa Fe area)

We spent several days in late October visiting Todd and Rachel in Las Vegas. We enjoyed the visit going to many places of interest and seeing them again.

We took a drive to Madrid on December 1st. Ate at the Refinery 14 and went into many of the little stores there. There were some tourist in town and shop keepers getting ready for the town's Christmas festivites. On December 7 there will be the annual Christmas Parade at 4 p.m. followed by the "Town of Lights." Madrid was known for its Christmas lights when it was a mining town. It has been lots of fun in years past!

On December 14 we went to the New Mexico Museum of Art's holiday open house event. Everyone especially enjoyed the annual puppet show of the re-creation of "The Marionettes And Art Of Gustave Baumann".

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
